Professional Chemistry Tutor

This role will work in the Chaiken Center for Student Success to provide tutoring in Chemistry to undergraduate university students. The tutor will develop workshops, structured academic initiatives, and collaborative opportunities that engage faculty, student organizations, and other members of the campus community. The Professional Tutor will interact with faculty and staff to promote the services of the Chaiken Center and ensure that tutoring services align with course objectives.

The tutor will be responsible for maintaining records for each student tutored, e.g., Starfish Outcome Notes, Client Report Forms, Satisfaction Surveys, etc.

Job Duties
  • Provides individual Chemistry tutoring for students.
  • Assigns practice exercises as needed.
  • Mentors students in completion and review of class assignments.
  • Assists students in preparing for exams.
  • Assists students in developing greater self-directed learning strategies.
  • Createsandmaintainsa Chemistry-focused

    Canvas course shellwhich will serve as a repository of Chemistryresources tutors can use as they work withtheirstudents
  • Monitorsscheduling &documentation through Starfish.
  • Maintains detailed records:
    Starfish Outcome Notes, Client Report Forms, Satisfaction Surveys, and other assessment measures.
  • Creates and compiles Chemistry-focused instructional and marketing materials.
  • Develop sand delivers workshops, presentations, and online resources for students on a range of Chemistry topics.
  • Provides administrative support for the Chaiken Center for Student Success.
  • Serves as a liaison to academic departments and related services.
  • Performs intentional outreach and interacts directly with under-served and under-resourced students.
  • Leads/coordinates special projects or initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborates with professors to ensure that tutoring complements classroom instruction.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • AMaster’s degree (preferred) in Chemistry or a related discipline, 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with effective assessment practices focusing on academic support services.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Innovation and creativity in program development.
  • Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills.
  • Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Outstanding teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work late afternoon/early evening and, on occasion, weekend hours.

Compensation: The starting rate for this job is $25/hour.
