Recreation Specialist - Range​/AMEA

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and functional supervision to recreation and volunteer participants.
• Works primarily at the Recreation Center, leading and organizing daily program and facility activities.
• Provides excellent customer service in‑person, via telephone and e‑mail.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Three (3) months of experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, childcare facility or program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
• American Red Cross First Aid and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or equivalent within 30 days of hire.
• Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).

• Preference given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
• Military service interview preference for veterans and current members of the National Guard or organized military reserves who can provide required documentation.

Appointments are conditional upon satisfactory municipal background checks and completion of required certifications and licenses, which must remain current for the duration of employment. Remote work schedule opportunities may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management.
