Position Overview
Peru State College’s School of Professional Studies invites applications for an Instructor or Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice with a focus on Criminal Justice and Sociology. The position involves teaching a 12-hour load per semester, including both on-campus and online courses, mentoring students, engaging in professional development, and contributing to campus life.
Philosophy
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate criminal justice and/or sociology courses on campus and online
- Advise and mentor students
- Participate in departmental, college, and campus activities
- Engage in professional development and contribute to the academic discipline
- Implement effective student engagement strategies in and outside the classroom
- Support a diverse student population, including many first-generation college students
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, or related area
- At least 15 graduate credit hours in criminal justice or sociology
- Experience with online and classroom teaching
- Commitment to student success and engagement, especially for underrepresented students
Preferred
- Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in criminal justice, sociology, or related area
- Professional experience in criminal justice or law enforcement
- Eligibility for tenure-track position (completion of terminal degree required)
- Candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional experience may be considered for an instructor-level appointment
