Student Success Specialist, College of Law

Location:

Tucson Campus, Tucson, AZ USA. Full-time, 40 hours per week, exempt under FLSA. This position is not eligible for out-of-state employment or remote work, and visa sponsorship is not available.

The James

E. Rogers College of Law prepares practice-ready lawyers and leaders. The Student Success Specialist provides support in student services and student affairs, delivering individual counseling, skills instruction, bar exam preparation, and program administration to help students succeed in law school, the bar exam, and their future careers.

Responsibilities Academic Counseling
  • Meet one-on-one with students to assess academic performance and learning strategies.
  • Assist students in developing effective approaches to case reading, outlining, and exam preparation; diagnose challenges related to time management, issue spotting, outlining, and other related skills.
  • Provide targeted support to students experiencing academic difficulty and connect them with appropriate College and/or University resources.
  • Work with the Assistant Registrars to advise students on academic planning, course selection, and registration.
Workshops & Instruction
  • Design and deliver workshops on legal analysis, issue spotting, outlining, and exam writing.
  • Assist in teaching or co-teaching academic success and/or bar exam preparation courses and workshops as needed.
  • Develop tutorial and instructional materials, including practice exercises and guides.
Bar Exam Preparation Support
  • Support administration of bar exam success programming for students and graduates.
  • Counsel students and graduates on bar exam study strategies and timelines.
  • Track student and graduate engagement and progress in bar exam preparation activities.
Program Support & Administration
  • Assist with planning and coordinating programming and events.
  • Maintain records related to student and graduate participation and outcomes.
  • Perform data reporting and maintain official records for ABA accreditation purposes.
  • Work closely with college-wide student services and student affairs professionals, associate deans, assistant deans, and faculty regarding student success.
  • Interface with the Assistant Registrars, supporting that office with student academic counseling matters and other peak duties as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing assessment and improvement of academic support and bar exam success initiatives; provide supervision of student workers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, accessible terms.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management abilities; ability to adapt instructional and communication approaches to support a variety of learning styles and educational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar passage by examination in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience in bar exam success programs and/or law school academic support.
  • Demonstrated experience in legal education and/or student success work.
