Job Responsibilities
The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.
Job Purpose:
This position will serve as the Team Lead for the agency's charter school function, overseeing charter school support, authorizer inquiries/requests, board training, and Planning and Implementation Grant requirements. This person should expect to be the subject matter expert of all things related to the charter school industry and South Carolina-specific requirements.
Responsibilities:- Facilitate technical assistance and program development services to potential and actual charter school applicants; potential and actual charter school sponsors; and charter school board members/faculty/staff.
- Research, organize, and communicate charter school best practices to multiple audiences using multiple streams, including new technologies, for public information. Develop any templates, model policies, etc. Re-design and implement the legally-required board training.
- Facilitate and participate in the planning and implementation of policies and practices to implement the SC Charter Schools Act through coordination with appropriate agency offices, state education officials, and partners. Represent the Department before hearings/meetings with the State Board of Education and the SC General Assembly with regards to providing research/data concerning SC charter schools, laws, and statistics from other states and the U.S. Department of Education.
- Ensure the agency completes all requirements for the Planning and Implementation Grant and ensure clear and concise communication with applicants and authorize rs.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is located in the Office of Education Choice and Family Engagement.
Minimum and Additional RequirementsA bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.
Preferred QualificationsA master's degree and five (5) years of experience in education, management, or a related field or a bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in education, management, or a related field.
