Compensation
Adjunct faculty are compensated at $778 per credit hour, paid biweekly. Eligibility for the tuition waiver benefit applies to adjuncts teaching one (1) or more credit classes, including up to four (4) credit hours per semester and one (1) credit HHPC Fitness Conditioning class. Tuition may be waived for a qualified family member for the semester of employment.
Position SummaryAdjutant faculty serve as temporary, part‑time educators appointed as needed on a semester‑by‑semester basis. The primary duty is effective teaching of college‑level welding courses and labs in the qualified discipline. Remote or hybrid work may be approved for adjunct employees located within New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas, provided approval is obtained in advance from the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work for locations outside the United States is not permitted.
The role reports to the Coordinator and is responsible for developing and revising instructional materials; presenting material in an organized manner; evaluating student learning; maintaining student records; teaching day, evening, weekend, and online classes; teaching at the main and/or satellite campuses; maintaining a minimum of one office hour per week per assigned course; participating in Adjunct Professional Development activities; and demonstrating and promoting the school values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
- Develop, revise, and deliver instructional materials for welding courses.
- Present material in an organized and engaging manner across various delivery modes.
- Evaluate student learning and maintain accurate student records.
- Teach day, evening, weekend, and online classes as assigned.
- Teach at the main campus and/or satellite campuses as required.
- Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week per assigned course.
- Participate in adjunct professional development activities.
- Demonstrate and promote the university values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
- Minimum of five (5) years of journeyman‑level welding experience.
- Associate’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree in vocational education or related field is a plus.
- Preference for candidates with prior teaching experience.
- Experience in traditional face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Ability to use San Juan College’s Learning Management System (Canvas) and technology‑enhanced curriculum.
- Access to reliable home internet, a personal computer, and telephone.
- Demonstrated skill and willingness to learn multiple technology platforms for student communication.
- Tuition waiver for one (1) class or up to four (4) credit hours per semester and one (1) HHPC Fitness Conditioning class.
