Position: Orientation & Mobility Specialist (Seattle)          at Stride, Inc.        in        Olympia,        Washington

Orientation & Mobility Specialist - Contractor

The Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist - CONTRACTOR is responsible for providing face-to-face orientation and mobility services to eligible special education students with visual impairments enrolled in virtual public schools within the K12/Stride network. Services are provided in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The O&M Specialist will collaborate with virtual school teams to support students' travel skills, independence, safety, and access across home, school, and community environments.

This is an Independent Consultant position (1099). Residency Requirements:
Must reside in the U.S. Compensation $60-90/hr.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential duties.

  • Provide in-person O&M assessments and direct services per IEP requirements.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and students to develop consistent service schedules.
  • Develop IEP goals relevant to the educational setting
  • Teach travel skills including sensory efficiency, cane techniques, orientation strategies, and environmental awareness.
  • Provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology recommendations to school staff.
  • Maintain compliance with state, and school regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including service logs and progress reports.
  • Collect data to track progress toward IEP goals.
  • Provide training and guidance to families and staff.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and school team activities.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and dependable schedule.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist.
  • Valid state certification in Orientation & Mobility as required by the state department of education

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently with consistent availability during typical school hours.
  • Experience supporting students in virtual settings.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology used by students with visual impairments.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for face-to-face O&M services.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems such as MS365
  • Ability to pass background checks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Requires regular travel to provide face-to-face services and remote administrative work from a professional home office. This is an Independent Consultant position (1099), open to residents of all 50 states and D.C. Other duties may be assigned.
