TRIO Upward Bound Educational Specialist

This job opportunity will provide direct services to high school students at Rimrock High School and Owyhee Combined High School located at the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. TRIO Upward Bound Educational Specialists are merged into the schools and provide either 1 on 1 or small group services that allow students to reach their potential. Specialists see the rewards that come with each service they provide.

Additionally, they will organize/attend fun student activities such as college visits, community service, cultural activities, and more!

This position may have the opportunity to be part-time (working at least 20 hours a week) or full-time (working 40 hours a week). This position spends most of the work week away from the Boise State University campus and instead at high schools residing in the Duck Valley area, Bruneau/Grandview, and Mountain Home. This position is not eligible for hybrid/remote work schedule.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

We are a federally funded grant program through the US Department of Education that prepares students for college or vocational school through various enrichment courses, intensive mentoring, and academic support. We are passionate about helping students and creating a safe work environment for all staff.

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry-level professionals and/or support employees.

Provide participants with information about postsecondary schools and/or programs; technical assistance in the area of college admission, financial aid, and scholarship; career information and referrals to postsecondary school career advisors if needed. Coordinate academic services offered to enrolled students to ensure a complete academic assessment. Under the direction of the project director, develop academic classes to be offered under the program.

Create an individual education plan in collaboration with other staff for each individual. Maintain accurate documentation of their progress toward completion of their plan. Teach classes to participants who have a demonstrated need for improvement before enrollment in a postsecondary program. Develop and coordinate a series of special topic workshops as directed by grant or project director (e.g. financial literacy, study skills, test anxiety).

Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with postsecondary institutions and programs participants may attend. Maintain accurate and confidential records regarding participants' academic progress while in the program. Determine work assignments and class selection of teachers and/or instructors. Provide information as needed to students regarding postsecondary opportunities, including admissions, financial aid, COMPASS testing, and scholarships, and assist as needed. Assist the project director with the development and submission of the Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education.

Execute daily advising and program operations directly on-site at Rimrock Jr./Sr. High School (Bruneau-Grand View Joint School District #365 at 39678
-78, Bruneau, ) and Owyhee Combined School (100 Academic Way, Owyhee, NV). Serve as the primary, on-the-ground student resource by spending the vast majority of the workweek on-site at rural and reservation campuses, fulfilling the core expectation of direct, face-to-face service delivery. Manage a high-travel schedule to maintain a consistent physical presence at both the Bruneau, , and Owyhee, NV campuses, directly executing grant objectives where the students are located.

Participate in the 6-week Residential Summer School program with duties designated by the Project Director. Perform other duties as needed throughout the academic year.
