Job Summary
Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA), a Stride K12 partner school, is hiring a full‑time Virginia English Teacher. The position is remote with a strong preference for candidates residing in Virginia and surrounding states (Washington, DC, Maryland). The teacher will deliver specific course content in an online environment, supporting students’ individualized learning plans, and collaborate with parents, learning coaches, and administrators to drive student success.

- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Personalize instruction for all students and differentiate based on student mastery.
- Augment course content using prescribed policies and appropriate online tools, under the guidance of the principal and coach.
- Maintain the grade book, ensuring academic integrity, making placement and promotion decisions, and alerting administrators to concerns about performance and progress.
- Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly and responding promptly to students, parents, and learning coaches.
- Support coaches and parents with curricular and instructional issues and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom.
- Travel as required (approximately once per month or 20% of the time) for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, and other school events.
- Work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, from a professional home office.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Active Virginia English teaching certificate.
- Ability to clear a required background check.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in technology use.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) environment and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar setting.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Ability to collaborate with other teachers to interpret and use student data for instructional decisions.
- Openness to regular coaching and professional development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and rapid learning of new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Maintenance of teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.
The position offers a base salary of $50,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus, in accordance with Stride, Inc.’s compensation framework. Additional benefits are available through the company’s benefit elections. Compensation and benefits will vary based on experience, qualifications, location, and expected contribution.
Work EnvironmentThe role is fully remote, with the teacher required to travel occasionally for professional development, student testing, and school events. The teacher will work from a professional home office, typically 9a.m.–5p.m. (or 8a.m.–4p.m.), with 40+ hours per week.
