Job Overview
The Middle School Special Education Teacher works with the ‘At‑Risk’ student population to provide remediation that supports academic goals and increases growth in these areas. The position is full‑time and requires the ability to work independently (typically 40+ hours per week), maintain a professional home office during the workday (9‑5 or 8‑4), and travel up to 20% of the time.
Essential Functions- Modify and adapt the K12 curriculum to align with state content standards and meet each student’s unique needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to meet student goals through individualized and small group sessions.
- Educate parents on instructional strategies.
- Ensure implementation of the RTI instructional system; oversee data collection and progress monitoring at every tier; use data to guide whole and small group instruction.
- Provide guidance to teachers on identifying and grouping students who need additional help; maintain all RTI data (eligible students, intervention plans).
- Serve as a daily resource to school administrators, leadership teams, and stakeholders regarding RTI issues.
- Coordinate with homeroom teachers, advisors, counselors, and district personnel to track Tier 2 interventions.
- Provide training and support to school/district staff on RTI and data‑collection procedures.
- Support teachers in documenting student progress and work with the special education team to facilitate eligibility for special education.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active Arizona Department of Education Middle School Special Education Teaching Certification (required).
- Arizona fingerprinting card (required).
- Ability to clear a required background check.
- Residency:
Must reside in Arizona (surrounding states may be considered). - 0–1 year of related professional experience (acceptable as a minimum).
Required Qualifications
- Collaborative ability to interpret and generate numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to regular coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt for excellent student outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Rapid learning and adaptation to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Maintenance of teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
- Experience working with the Middle school age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in using technology.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
Salary range: $50,573.00 – $63,216.00 (typical for this position). Eligible employees may receive a bonus, though it is not guaranteed. Salary is determined by education, experience, qualifications, location, travel requirements, and market conditions.
