Special Education Teacher
Job Goal(s)
The primary job goal of the FAPE Home-Based Special Education Teacher is to provide special education instruction to students in home and/or community environments consistent with their IEP. This primarily includes students 18-26, however could also include homebound/hospitalized students of any age.
In addition, the Home-Based Special Education Teacher will collaborate with parents/guardians, agency professionals, community members, administrators, and consultants to make data-based decisions to ensure student progress toward IEP goal(s) and Transition plans. The Home-Based Special Education Teacher also supports the Community-based Transition Center when not directly engaged with or planning for caseload students.
QualificationsEducation:
Bachelor's degree in education required
Certification:
Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education required, CPI Certification (or ability to obtain)
Work Experience:
At least three years of experience is preferred.
Skills:
- Lead education planning for assigned caseload.
- Provide positive and consistent instructional behaviors and techniques.
- Provide positive behavior support strategies
- Participate in curricular and instructional planning.
- Participate in behavior intervention planning.
- Maintain positive contact with students, agencies, and parents regarding progress.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with parents, administrators, consultants and other school staff and agencies.
- Measure student progress and program effectiveness.
- Maintain complete, accurate and timely documents and records.
- Assume positive intentions when working with others.
- Adhere to federal, state and VBISD policies and procedures.
- Model VBISD guidelines:
Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence. - Seek ongoing professional learning and accept feedback in a professional way.
- Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent.
- Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential student and parent information.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Complete assigned responsibilities, as assigned within agreed upon or established timelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel in own vehicle throughout Van Buren County to provide services (mileage reimbursement set by standard IRS rates).
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods as needed for student activities.
- Valid driver's license required.
As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
