Position: Adjunct Faculty (Section Lead) Pool - Online Business Analytics Courses

Job Summary

The Raymond

A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary is recruiting a pool of Adjunct Faculty (Section Leads) to lead one or more 7.5‑week asynchronous course sections within the Online Master of Science in Business Analytics and Online MBA programs. Section Leads serve as vital members of the school and the William & Mary community, facilitating their assigned course sections by posting announcements, engaging in discussion boards, offering weekly office hours, responding to student inquiries, monitoring student progress, grading assignments, and providing substantive, timely feedback.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain frequent and open communication with faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, or other appropriate media.
  • Complete online instructor orientation and technology training prior to teaching and continue training each year.
  • Review course syllabus, content, activities, and assignments before the term starts.
  • Adhere to the course design, instructional and grading guidelines, and due dates.
  • Post a minimum of two weekly announcements relevant to course content and learning activities.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Provide timely, personalized, and substantive feedback on graded assignment submissions.
  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner (48–72 hours) based on instructions/rubrics provided by the Faculty Lead.
  • Monitor and participate in weekly discussion boards.
  • Offer virtual office hours (drop‑in or by appointment) totaling at least one hour per week and communicate this information through announcements and the course calendar.
  • Monitor student progress and notify the Faculty Lead when a student is unresponsive or at risk of failing.
  • Meet weekly with the Faculty Lead during scheduled calls throughout the course.
  • Submit final grades to the Faculty Lead according to William & Mary and Mason School grading policies and the Online Programs calendar.
  • Submit a Section Lead end‑of‑semester reflection form and attend debriefing meetings as applicable.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business/data analytics, computer science, industrial engineering, information systems, information technology, operations management, operations research, or a closely related field.
  • Significant expertise and relevant professional and/or instructional experience in one of the listed fields.
  • Experience providing instruction to adult learners in an academic or corporate setting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communicating and collaborating in digital environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding William & Mary’s reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree directly related to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching adult learners in a professional degree program.
  • Experience providing online instruction.
  • Enthusiasm for delivering education in an online mode.
  • Proficiency using video‑conferencing technologies and web‑based collaboration platforms.
  • Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system.
