Director of Online Instruction and Statewide Delivery
12‑month administrative position, full‑time, located in Fairfax County, VA, reporting to the VP Academic & Student Services.
SummaryLeads the faculty services and support unit of NOVA Online, managing faculty scheduling, orientation, evaluation, and quality assurance for online courses across the state.
Responsibilities- Supervise development and revision of complex course schedules for the online unit.
- Manage enrollment targets and oversee enrollment management activities.
- Coordinate with faculty, deans, and provosts on scheduling and workload.
- Develop and implement faculty readiness assessment and orientation programs.
- Conduct annual faculty performance evaluations for over 700 faculty.
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Services to address student complaints and intervene as needed.
- Design and implement a quality assurance process in partnership with instructional design.
- Represent NOVA Online at national conferences and publish presentations.
- Oversee the Shared Services Distance Learning (SSDL) program and partner colleges.
- Manage approval of new courses for Phase II sharing between partner colleges.
- Assist senior administrators with faculty credential access for accreditation.
- Train liaisons and manage SSDL course administration, including SIS coding and billing.
- Ensure correct student enrollment and maintain MOUs with partner colleges.
- Promote quality instruction through faculty awards, professional development, and data‑driven reviews.
- Request updates and input from employees for college decisions and share feedback through the NOVA Brief.
- Creativity, vision, dedication to data‑driven decision‑making, and outstanding attention to detail.
- Commitment to continual improvement and ability to guide faculty and staff through performance data.
- Ability to manage multiple short‑ and long‑term projects with daily responsibilities.
- Strong leadership skills in a fast‑paced, complex environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Comfort working independently and interfacing with varied staff.
- Proficiency with Canvas, web conferencing, spreadsheets, databases, and People Soft.
- Experience leading through organizational change and prioritization.
- Knowledge of best practices in online instruction, pedagogy, and distance‑learning trends.
- Knowledge of accreditation, regulatory, and compliance expectations for distance education.
- Knowledge of outcomes assessment principles in higher education.
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience collaborating with academic leadership on scalable online learning practices.
- Experience supervising faculty in higher education.
- Experience supporting shared‑services or statewide online learning models.
- Experience using analytics and student‑success metrics for decisions and instruction.
- Online teaching experience.
- Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.
- Quality Matters certification.
- Community college experience.
- College teaching experience.
- Experience with online quality assurance.
Occasional travel may be required for meetings and conferences.
