Black, African, and African American Student Advocate and Admissions Representative

This position plays an important role in the recruitment and outreach initiatives of Normandale Community College for enrolling new Black and African American students. The primary objective is to meet or exceed first‑year enrollment goals established by the administration. The role provides the development and implementation of programs and procedures for marketing, community outreach, student recruitment, and student advising, serving as the primary link between prospective students and the college in all enrollment‑related matters.

Salary:
Hourly $25.29 – $36.71; annually $52,806 – $76,650, with placement dependent on education and experience. Salary placement is based on experience, education, and local standards.

Work schedule:

8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. A flexible schedule may be approved with up to two days remote work per week (if applicable).

• Participate in a wide range of activities that move students through the enrollment funnel, including prospect generation, inquiry management, application development, orientation, and registration.
• Inform prospective students, parents, and high school counseling staff of admission requirements, procedures, and educational opportunities available at Normandale Community College.
• Provide presentations about the college and represent the college at high school visits, educational fairs, and college/career events.
• Develop relationships with high school guidance counselors, civic and community leaders, and maintain follow‑up contact with prospective students and their parents.
• Arrange campus visits, tours, and other outreach events in support of the college enrollment plan.
• Conduct, prepare, and present research related to the position.
• Contribute to the college’s strategic goals by advancing equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service‑oriented culture.

• One year of experience in higher education supporting outreach or recruitment strategies, or a substitute:
  Associate’s degree = 6 months of experience;
  Bachelor’s degree = 1 year of experience.
• Ability to write and speak in a second language such as Arabic, Somali, Amharic, Swahili, or French.
• Knowledge of culture and history of the Black and African American communities in the Twin Cities area to support the unique needs of this population.
• Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and strategies for student recruitment.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills needed to interact with courtesy, respect, and professionalism with individuals of varying educational levels and diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to conduct public relations on the college’s behalf through public speaking, verbal and written communication, and relationship building.

• Three years of experience in higher education supporting outreach or recruitment strategies.
• Knowledge of student development theory.
• Capacity to navigate and utilize technology tools and systems effectively, demonstrating a proactive attitude toward learning new software and digital platforms relevant to admissions operations.
• Familiarity with the Minnesota State System, Normandale programs, policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate the development of cultural enrichment activities that celebrate diversity, promote positive race relations, and increase social interaction among staff and students.
