The Raymond
A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary is recruiting a pool of Adjunct Faculty (Section Leads) to lead one or more 7½‑week asynchronous course sections within the Online Master of Accounting (MAcc) and Online MBA programs. Section Leads facilitate their assigned course section(s) under the supervision of the Faculty Lead by posting course announcements, engaging in discussion boards, offering weekly office hours, responding to student inquiries, monitoring progress, grading assignments, and providing timely, substantive feedback.
- Maintain frequent and open communication with faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and other appropriate media.
- Complete online instructor orientation and technology training before teaching, and continue training each year.
- Review course syllabus, content, activities, and assignments prior to the term start date.
- Adhere to course design, instructional, and grading guidelines and due dates.
- Post a minimum of two weekly announcements relevant to course content and learning activities.
- Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
- Provide students with timely, personalized, substantive feedback on graded assignments.
- Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on the provided rubrics (48–72 hours).
- Monitor and participate in weekly discussion boards.
- Offer virtual office hours (drop‑in or by appointment) totaling at least one hour per week, and communicate this information through announcements and the course calendar.
- Monitor student progress and notify the Faculty Lead when a student is unresponsive or at risk of failing.
- Meet weekly with the Faculty Lead during scheduled calls throughout the course.
- Submit final grades to the Faculty Lead according to William & Mary, Mason School grading policies, and the Online Programs calendar.
- Submit the Section Lead end‑of‑semester reflection form and attend debriefing meetings as applicable.
- Allocate approximately 15 to 20 hours per week to these duties.
- Master’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.
- Significant expertise and relevant professional and/or instructional experience in accounting and related fields (financial accounting, financial statement analysis and valuation, cost and managerial accounting, taxation, audit, and accounting analytics).
- Experience providing instruction to adult learners in an academic or corporate setting.
- Demonstrated excellence in communicating and collaborating in digital environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a diverse student population.
- Demonstrated commitment to upholding William & Mary’s historic reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
- Doctoral degree in accounting.
- Active Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license.
- Demonstrated excellence teaching adult learners in a professional degree program.
- Experience providing online instruction.
- Enthusiasm for delivering education in an online mode.
- Proficiency using video‑conferencing technologies and web‑based collaboration platforms.
- Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system.
