School Counselor

This is a full‑time position requiring independent work and typically 40+ hours per week. A professional home office without distraction during the workday is required, with schedules typically 9‑5 (or 8‑4), as defined by the school.

• Provide reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities where needed.
• Help all students plan postsecondary options, including enrollment in education, enlistment in the military, or workforce employment.
• Apply academic achievement strategies.
• Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills; focus students and families on college and career readiness.
• Meet quarterly with all students on caseload to review graduation plans and post‑secondary options.
• Deliver classroom instruction based on student success standards.
• Review transcripts and other academic documentation for new and returning students.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to develop a four‑year graduation plan and audit student schedules for candidacy for graduation as determined by school and state policies.
• Assist students with course placement and recommend Advanced Placement (AP) and other challenging pathways.
• Analyze student data and develop data‑driven intervention action plans.
• Provide short‑term counseling to students and refer for long‑term support when necessary.
• Support teachers, staff, and parents by strengthening collaborative efforts.
• Support standardized testing programs, parent education, and staff development.
• Advocate for students at individual education plan meetings and other student‑focused meetings.
• Travel up to 20% of the time for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, or school‑required activities.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Three (3) years of counseling and/or advisement experience.
• School Counselor license held in Iowa.
• Clear required background check.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web‑based search engines, and database systems.
• Flexible schedule; ability to travel as needed.
• Master’s degree in school counseling (preferred).
• Experience with distance learning.
• Advanced coursework in counseling and administration.

• Experience as a teacher.
• Experience in a customer‑service environment.
• Experience with local, state, and federal laws and mandated reporting.
• Experience in a charter school environment (preferred).
• Experience with state career‑planning systems such as Pathfinder.

Salary range is $40,007.00 – $60,010.00, with the typical offer in the lower half of the range. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. Benefits may include health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
