DEPARTMENT OF EARTH, ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCES

A lecture pool position for temporary, part‑time lecturers to be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026 and/or Spring 2027.

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (EESC) offers degrees in Environmental Science (BS), Environmental Studies (BA), Geography (BS), Geology (BS), and Environmental Geosciences (MS). In addition to courses for our EESC majors, the department offers general education courses. Many classes include laboratory– and field‑based activities. The total number of majors in all department programs is approximately 100. Department facilities include three lab classrooms, a student computer lab, and shared laboratory space.

The department maintains rock and mineral collections and other supplies for laboratory sections. As of Fall 2026, the department has six tenure‑track faculty, eight part‑time faculty, an office manager, and an instructional support technician.

Part‑time positions teaching introductory courses in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography and Geology. Lecturers teach many of the courses listed in the 2026-27 University Catalog and due to recent and pending retirements we are particularly interested in applications from individuals able to teach introductory and advanced geology courses, GIS and Remote Sensing courses, and meteorological/atmospheric science. Opportunities may occasionally arise for teaching evening graduate classes in applied fields such as Engineering Geology.

Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026;
Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.
