4‑H Coordinator – San Juan County

The San Juan County Office of Utah State University Extension seeks a qualified individual to assist in coordinating countywide youth programs consistent with the county 4‑H team. Duties include recruiting volunteers and teen leaders to actively lead 4‑H clubs and events, providing educational experiences, and representing the principles of positive youth development through 4‑H. The position is a 20‑25 hour per week part‑time role located in San Juan County.

• Advance the 4‑H program in the county by recruiting and training volunteers and youth leaders to organize and run 4‑H Clubs. Provide support and guidance to existing and new volunteers and 4‑H clubs.
• Promote Regional and State 4‑H programs. This may include marketing, registering, and supporting volunteers in facilitating opportunities.
• Support a variety of Extension outreach activities that may include school enrichment activities such as Farm Field Day, Career Days, camps, and teen leadership programs.
• Respond to requests, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence promptly and professionally.
• Be an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team, participating in meetings, serving on working groups, and assisting at regional and state events.
• Support the Civil Rights mandate of Utah State University Extension and implement innovative approaches to reach diverse audiences.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Some college or related experience.
• Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Zoom, etc.).
• Desire to work with volunteers and youth leaders.
• Reliable transportation to and from worksite.

• Experience with 4‑H or other youth serving organizations.
• Experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
• Knowledge of the Land Grant University system.
• Prior experience with community programming.

• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to teach, manage and engage an audience (youth and adult).
• Strong computer and technology skills – Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
• Ability to market USU Extension youth program events and opportunities.
• Ability to effectively utilize social media to raise awareness of opportunities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals.
• Ability to work nights and weekends.
• Ability to travel throughout area of responsibility, occasional statewide, consistent with university policy.
• Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.
• Ability to work from home.

Incumbents may work indoors and outdoors; indoor work occurs in office or event spaces, protected from weather but not temperature changes. Outdoors, the incumbent may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, and weather. Work may require prolonged sitting, repetitive hand motions, and lifting, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. The role may involve walking or standing for long periods and occasional confined or narrow spaces.
