Position Summary

Adjunct faculty serve as temporary, part‑time instructors appointed on a semester‑by‑semester basis. The primary duty is the effective teaching of college‑level courses and/or labs in the qualified discipline. The position is non‑exempt and classified as Adjunct/Part‑Time Faculty (Fixed Term) at Grade NE15.

Remote Work Policy

Remote or hybrid work may be approved for adjunct employees within New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. Requests for remote work must be approved in advance by the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work options for locations outside the United States are not permitted.

Responsibilities
  • Teach college‑level courses and labs in the qualified discipline.
  • Develop and revise instructional materials.
  • Present material in an organized manner.
  • Evaluate student learning and maintain student records.
  • Conduct day, evening, weekend, and online classes as assigned.
  • Teach at the main and/or satellite campuses as assigned.
  • Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week per assigned course.
  • Participate in Adjunct Professional Development activities.
  • Demonstrate and promote the school values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
Qualifications
  • Current New Mexico license and a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field; a bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
  • At least two years of clinical practice experience in respiratory therapy.
  • Prior teaching experience is an advantage.
  • Experience with traditional face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Ability to use San Juan College’s Learning Management System (Canvas) and other technology platforms.
  • Access to reliable home internet, a personal computer, and a telephone.
Compensation and Benefits

Adjunct faculty are paid on a credit or contact hour basis at a rate of $31.95–$33.55 per credit hour, depending on degree. The policy caps teaching at no more than 9 credit hours per semester, except with special approval. Adjunct faculty who teach at least one credit class receive a tuition waiver for up to four credit hours per semester and may transfer the waiver to a qualified family member.

Additional benefits include free professional development, free library services, 403(b) participation, an employee assistance program, and voluntary benefits. Adjunct faculty are not eligible for medical benefits. State and federal taxes, FICA, and social security will be withheld.
