Pay Range $1,483.20 - $1,596.50 per credit hour
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job DescriptionThe S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is looking for an individual to teach JNL 221 Foundations of Data and Digital Journalism on Monday/Wednesday 3:45-5:05 during the Fall 2026 semester (3 credits).
Course DescriptionIn this skills‑based course, students survey digital best practices in data journalism, web presentation, and data visualization. Students will study the basic functions and integral properties of data analysis, HTML / CSS , and data visualization/presentation.
ResponsibilitiesIt is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
- Developing a syllabus.
- Ordering books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes in advance.
- Preparing for classes.
- Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
- Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Instructors are also expected to make themselves available for students needing outside‑of‑class assistance and to provide feedback and grades in a timely manner.
- Some knowledge of HTML and CSS is helpful but not required.
- Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
- Ability to hold office hours on campus.
- Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
- Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
