Overview

The University of Redlands' School of Education is hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor of Online Education for a full-time, 10-month visiting position in the Department of Teaching and Learning. This role is crucial for leading the transformation of our hybrid teacher preparation curriculum into a fully online modality while teaching courses in the teacher preparation program.

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Online Education is expected to be an expert in online pedagogy who can design, develop, and deliver high-quality online learning experiences for teacher candidates. This includes creating engaging, interactive coursework that maintains rigor and promotes active learning in digital environments, while ensuring alignment with CTC requirements and best practices in teacher education. A Visiting Assistant Professor would also support faculty with online course development.

A key responsibility is to ensure that teacher candidates receive excellent instruction through innovative online teaching methods and are adequately prepared to enter the profession as digitally literate, equity-minded educators. This involves expertise in online learning platforms, instructional design, and a commitment to fostering inclusive digital learning communities.

Duties and Responsibilities Teaching and Instruction
  • Teaching courses in the teacher preparation program using online methodologies.
  • Developing engaging, interactive online learning experiences that maintain rigor and promote active learning.
  • Utilizing diverse educational technologies to create inclusive, accessible learning environments.
  • Modeling best practices in online pedagogy for teacher candidates.
  • Providing timely, meaningful feedback on student work through digital platforms.
Curriculum Transformation
  • Leading the redesign of hybrid teacher preparation curriculum to fully online delivery.
  • Creating digital resources, modules, and assessment tools aligned with online learning best practices.
  • Ensuring curriculum meets CTC requirements while optimizing for online delivery.
  • Implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessibility standards.
Collaboration
  • Working collaboratively with School of Education faculty on program development and continuous improvement.
  • Partnering with instructional designers and educational technology specialists.
  • Contributing to departmental meetings, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
Administrative Duties
  • Managing courses within the university’s Learning Management System (LMS) with advanced proficiency.
  • Maintaining accurate records and submitting grades in a timely manner.
  • Advising teacher candidates on academic progress and program requirements.
  • Participating in student recruitment and retention efforts.
Professional Development and Scholarship
  • Staying current with emerging technologies and online pedagogical research.
  • Contributing to the scholarship of online teaching and learning in teacher education.
  • Engaging in professional development activities related to online education.
  • Supporting the development of a culture of innovation in teacher preparation.
Key Expectations

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Online Education is expected to maintain flexible hours to accommodate online course delivery, virtual office hours, and collaboration with School of Education faculty and staff.
