Medical Administrative Assistant Instructor (Part-Time)
Part‑time adjunct faculty positions are appointed on an as‑needed, course‑by‑course, semester basis. Classes are held on the main campus in Roanoke, with possible remote work as needed. Primary scheduling includes weekday evenings and/or weekends.
Responsibilities- Teach students in both classroom and skills lab settings.
- Deliver the established course curriculum and monitor student progress.
- Transfer knowledge to support students in preparing for the CMAA exam.
- Troubleshoot classroom technical issues and track equipment usage and inventory.
- Assess students for content mastery and skills proficiency, maintaining attendance and grades in accordance with policies.
- Assist with content development and curriculum as required.
- At least one year of experience as a medical assistant or medical front‑office staff member performing administrative assistant tasks.
- Expert‑level skills and abilities necessary to pass the CMAA exam.
- Knowledge of local and regional health‑care facilities and systems.
- Associate’s degree in a related health‑care field.
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to write syllabi and exams, develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Experience teaching adult learners and using Canvas or a similar LMS (helpful).
- Proven ability to provide instruction in accelerated formats geared toward certification exam preparation.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related health‑care field.
- Five years of work experience in a patient‑care setting in clinical medical assisting or medical office field.
- Minimum one year of medical administrative assistant experience.
- Candidates must complete a background investigation, including fingerprint checks, employment and education verification, credit checks, I‑9 and E‑Verify requirements.
- Selected candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
