Part-Time Reading & HiSET Prep Teacher; Adult Education

ABOUT THE ROLE

The CLC's Part‑time ABE Reading teachers are responsible for teaching classes, writing lesson plans, developing instructional materials, providing ongoing assessment of students, reviewing goals and achievements with students, and maintaining records of student participation and progress. They may serve on a team, and they may serve as part‑time representatives to staff and department meetings.

We are looking for a committed individual who will flourish in these roles.

• Dynamically teach Reading classes (NRS Levels 1-2/GLE 0‑2.9 through NRS Level 6/GLE 9‑12, depending on interest and experience) to adult learners, whether in person, hybrid, or online, depending on program needs
• Provide scaffolded, explicit instruction, practice, and assessment to help students achieve educational and personal goals.
• Work as a team with other teachers and staff to develop materials, lessons, and share best practices.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to continually improve our services.

• Dynamically teach online HiSET Test Prep classes to adult learners, including test‑taking strategies, strategic reading, study skills, and test format.
• Manage student participation in an online HiSET Test Prep program.

• Experience teaching reading and/or writing.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of methods and materials used in reading instruction.
• Sensitivity to the needs of the adult learner population.
• A commitment to racial equity and a desire to understand and interrupt systemic racism and other forms of oppression.

• Experience teaching adults in a community‑based setting.
• Familiarity with the College and Career Readiness Standards.
• Experience with HiSET test preparation.
• A passion for collaboration, problem‑solving, and learning new things.
• Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities.

• General office and classroom environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting; work to be performed mainly onsite (some remote work options).
• Job requires computer use. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
• Be comfortable to work primarily in a standard office environment with moderate noise level, telephones, personal computers, printers, and other office equipment.
