Position Overview
The College for Creative Studies (CCS) invites applications for a full‑time Assistant or Associate Professor of Film Production. The Faculty member will teach film/video production courses, including documentary, experimental, narrative, and emerging media, while mentoring students and maintaining a professional filmmaking practice.
Position Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Program Chair to develop courses, curriculum, and pedagogy that support emerging film language.
- Mentor students and adjunct faculty.
- Utilize CCS’s Learning Management System to support in‑person and online instruction.
- Develop and deliver online courses.
- Participate in departmental, college‑wide service activities, including Faculty Assembly, accreditation processes, Review Week, and Commencement.
- Participate in admissions and recruitment initiatives such as information sessions, open houses, and national portfolio days.
- Work with the Program Manager and adjunct faculty on ongoing curriculum reviews and program assessment.
- Maintain a personal professional practice as a filmmaker.
- Nurture relationships with cultural institutions and industry partners.
- Mentor assigned students, providing academic and professional guidance.
- Collaborate with Academic Advising, Career Development, International Student Services, and the Center for Writing & Tutoring to support student success.
- Assist the Chair with program‑specific retention efforts.
- MFA in Film/Filmmaking or equivalent professional experience in film/video production.
- College‑level teaching experience (Assistant Professor) or five years of full‑time teaching at the college level (Associate Professor).
- Record of effective collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience developing internal or external creative partnerships for curricular or strategic initiatives.
- Ability to support belonging initiatives at the College.
- Substantive professional experience as a working filmmaker outside academia.
- Knowledge of digital technologies used in educational and professional art/design environments.
- Passion for the program’s educational mission and for the role of art/design in society.
- Narrative filmmaking credits.
- Evidence of teaching narrative filmmaking.
- Evidence of virtual production experience.
- Evidence of visual effects production experience.
- A strong exhibition/film festival record.
- Experience working in the motion picture industry.
The position is based in a professional office and college campus environment with moderate noise. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor elements, may move objects up to 25 lb, attend off‑site meetings, and travel between campus sites.
