Position: Extensive Support Needs Teacher (2026/27 School Year)

Location: Onsite and Remote Office

Position Summary

The Extensive Support Needs Teacher provides instruction at the elementary, middle, high school and/or adult transition level to students who require remedial and specialized assistance in pre‑academic, academic, social emotional, behavioral, adaptive behavior, daily living, pre‑vocational, college and career skill areas; and plans, develops, organizes and implements comprehensive individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with a variety of disabilities. School staff will rely on the Extensive Support Needs Teacher to provide consultation and educational services within the area of special education.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Completes thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and reevaluations in alignment with state and federal guidelines as well as department guidelines, and develops legally compliant IEPs and assessment reports.
  • Uses comprehensive assessment results in developing an appropriate IEP to accommodate the wide variety of individual needs of each student.
  • Provides appropriate instruction both individually and in small groups as well as other special education supports to students whose needs have been identified in an IEP.
  • Utilizes functional skills curriculum and/or core curriculum with modifications to develop lesson plans to instruct/remediate identified learning deficits and make progress toward agreed upon goals.
  • Creates, develops, and provides student specific materials when needed.
  • Provides consultation to parents regarding the utilization of curriculum and implementation of instructional strategies.
  • Administers school‑approved curriculum benchmark/progress monitoring assessments.
  • Develops, schedules, leads, and participates in IEP meetings.
  • Consults with various school team members, parents, outside service providers regarding student assessments, specialized instruction, accommodations and modifications, and behavior management techniques.
  • Coordinates IEP services as needed.
  • Maintains records and reports, and completes frequent progress monitoring that are required by the school, state and/or federal regulations.
  • Develops positive relationships and rapport with all staff members.
  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with all other school personnel and parents while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Participates in staff and program development.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of assigned paraprofessionals as well as provides training in order for the paraprofessionals to work effectively with students.
  • Provides services to students in public locations and/or in‑home.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and proctors assessment during testing periods.
  • Other Duties
  • Responds to all school related communication within 24 business hours.
  • Documents and refers to the school’s management all formal disciplinary actions involving students; supporting management with addressing and resolving complaints from students and parents in a timely manner; ensuring compliance with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
