Overview

Visiting Program Administrator, Health and Community Wellness – University of Illinois Extension. This full-time, 12-month academic professional position provides oversight, leadership, and supervision for grant projects and special initiatives within the Center for Food Systems, Nutrition Security, and Health Integration and the broader Health and Community Wellness team. The role involves guiding staff hired under Extension grants, supporting statewide and regional programs, and representing the Center with Extension staff, stakeholders, and partners.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, public health, community health, family and consumer science, nutrition, human development, or related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in progress may be considered for interviews, but degree must be completed by hire date.
  • Two (2) years of experience facilitating and guiding the work of teams.
  • Experience meeting project goals and deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with University of Illinois Extension.
  • Experience in direct supervision.
  • Experience supporting a remote workforce.
  • Valid driver's license.
Specific Job Information

Two full-time positions are available.

Location:

Urbana-Champaign Campus. In-state hybrid remote work arrangements are available. This is a security-sensitive position; comprehensive background checks will be conducted.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team; experience documenting grant goals and related metrics; proficiency with technology for reporting and communication.

Job Responsibilities Program Oversight, Leadership and Direction
  • Provide oversight of center-related grant programming to ensure goals and objectives are met per grant plans.
  • Actively recruit and hire staff in coordination with Center leadership.
  • Monitor staff program delivery to support outreach efforts and deliverables.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to staff on performance; model improvement practices at programming sites as needed.
  • Participate in and reinforce content from staff trainings.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to gather perspectives and implement necessary changes to current programming.
  • Provide leadership in marketing Extension outreach and programming to targeted populations and partnering organizations.
  • Assist staff with gathering participant demographic information to ensure civil rights reporting compliance.
  • Work with the Center and HCW Leadership to ensure onboarding, programming, and program support.
Supervision
  • Provide supervision of all assigned staff per Extension/ACES guidelines.
  • Coordinate logistics and activities for program tasks (travel, equipment, supplies).
  • Meet regularly with staff to provide guidance on performance and program implementation.
  • Review and approve staff work hours and calendars.
  • Monitor and approve program expenses in line with grant and budget guidelines.
Other Information
  • Comply with reporting deadlines and requirements (plans-of-work, activity and impact reporting).
  • Perform other duties contributing to the mission of University of Illinois Extension programming.
  • Local, regional, statewide, and limited interstate travel may be required.
  • Physical and environmental conditions include exposure to varying weather, noise, and allergens; ability to move items up to 40 pounds; occasional evenings and weekends.
Administrative Relationship

The Visiting Program Administrator is administratively responsible to the Visiting Senior Program Lead, Education and Strategic Initiatives.

Appointment Information

These are full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure academic professional positions appointed on a 12-month service basis. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary range: $58,000 to $73,000, with final offers based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, and budget.
