Overview

The remote Middle School Social Studies Teacher is a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. They monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system and work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals.

This is a full-time remote position requiring independent work and occasional travel for school functions and professional development.

West Virginia Virtual Academy (WVVA) — a Stride K12 partner school. The mission is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience with a data-driven, student-centered instructional model.

Responsibilities
  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Personalize learning for all students and maintain high expectations.
  • Differentiates instruction based on student mastery levels.
  • Augment course content according to policies using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from the principal and coach.
  • Maintain grade book, monitor student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns about performance and progress.
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues, including basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom.
  • Travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and as required by the school.
Qualifications
  • REQUIRED

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor s degree AND Active state teaching license AND Ability to clear required background check.
  • DESIRED

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience with the target age group; experience supporting adults and children with technology; experience teaching online and/or in brick-and-mortar settings; experience with online learning platforms; ability to interpret and present numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to inform instructional decisions; willingness to receive coaching regularly; adaptability to change; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint; ability to learn new technologies quickly;

    ability to maintain teaching certification and professional development hours; familiarity with K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $44,000–$46,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus and stipends. Expected salary range discussed is typically in the lower half of the range; the anticipated salary is around $45,000. Benefits may include health benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. This salary is not guaranteed and can vary based on location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.

Environment

This is a virtual position with the expectation to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week. Candidates should maintain a professional home office without distraction during standard work hours (e.g., 9–5 or 8–4, as defined by the school).
