Title:
Medical Administrative Assistant Instructor (Part‑Time)

Pay Range: $42–$48 per hour
Virginia Western Community College, a two‑year public institution under the Virginia Community College System, is seeking part‑time adjunct faculty to teach the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) course. Classes are held primarily on campus with possible remote work and are scheduled during weekday evenings or weekends.
Responsibilities- Teach students in both classroom and skills‑lab settings, ensuring they gain the knowledge and skills required to pass the National Health career Association CMAA exam.
- Deliver the established course curriculum and monitor student progress.
- Transfer knowledge to support certification preparation, troubleshoot classroom technical issues, and track equipment usage and inventory.
- Assess students for content mastery and skills proficiency and maintain attendance and grades in accordance with college policies.
- Assist with content development and curriculum as needed.
- May perform other duties as assigned and support the agency or state government in emergency declarations.
- Must be or have been a medical assistant or front‑office medical staff member with at least one year of experience performing medical administrative assistant tasks.
- Expert‑level skills and knowledge necessary to pass the CMAA exam.
- Knowledge of local and regional health‑care facilities and systems.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to meet set deadlines.
- Associate’s degree in a related health‑care field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Experience in teaching adult learners and proficiency with Canvas or a similar Learning Management System.
- Five years of work experience in a patient‑care setting or medical office field.
- Proven ability to provide instruction in accelerated formats geared toward certification exam preparation.
- Demonstrated track record of high student credential and institutional outcomes.
- Operation of a state vehicle not required.
