Position Overview
Penn State Dickinson Law seeks an Associate Director of Academic Success & Bar Preparation to serve at our University Park location.
Responsibilities- Prepare and instruct law school academic success courses and workshops in University Park and, as needed, at other campus locations, focusing on first‑year law student success in time management, outlining, and exam preparation.
- Counsel JD and LLM students through one‑on‑one and small group meetings to enhance study and test‑taking skills.
- Provide academic skills advising and instruction for University Park students under the Enhanced Academic Support Program.
- Oversee the tutoring program in collaboration with the Director, coordinating with Human Resources, student organizations, and faculty to ensure equitable service delivery at both locations.
- Support spring and summer bar preparation courses by meeting with students, managing attendance, guest‑teaching sessions, and grading assignments.
- Create and maintain a webpage with up‑to‑date bar admission and exam information, practice exam questions, and preparation tips.
- Collect law school bar exam results and annually prepare the first draft of the ABA Bar Questionnaire.
- Advisory meetings with students regarding course selection and maximizing their law school experience, especially during registration season.
- Refer students to Academic & Student Services, the Student Academic Handbook, and counseling resources as appropriate.
- Attend occasional on‑ and off‑campus events, including travel between Carlisle and University Park locations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- Admission to any state bar.
- At least two years of relevant experience in legal practice or higher education.
- Demonstrated experience or potential in teaching, tutoring, or providing academic skills workshops or training.
• If filled as Academic Program Specialist – Senior Professional:
Master’s degree with six or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent education‑experience combination. No mandatory certifications.
• If filled as Academic Program Specialist – Advanced Professional:
Bachelor’s degree with three or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent education‑experience combination. No mandatory certifications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Empathy and compassion in stressful environments.
- Ability to handle confidential information, exercise good judgment, and provide high‑quality student‑facing customer service.
- Self‑initiated prioritization and project management without supervision.
- Proficient in spreadsheet reporting, word processing, presentation creation, instructional video production, and online video conferencing.
The target start date is August 17, 2026, or sooner. The Associate Director will work primarily in person at the University Park location but may, with departmental agreement, work remotely on occasion. Remote work requests must align with departmental needs and essential duties.

Salary & BenefitsThe salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $59,580.00 – $94,980.00.
