POSITION SPECIFICSThe Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy is seeking an Adult Education Instructor and Student Support Coordinator to provide high-quality instruction in adult education and family literacy programs while also coordinating student support services. Those student support services promote persistence, achievement, and successful transitions to employment, training, and postsecondary education. This position combines classroom teaching responsibilities with student support and case management functions to ensure students receive comprehensive services that address both academic and personal barriers to success.
TEACHINGRESPONSIBILITIES
Includes instruction in Language Arts, Family Literacy, and English as a Second Language (ESL) when needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction for adult education and family literacy students.
- Deliver instruction in a hyflex format, supporting simultaneous in-person and remote participation while ensuring equitable engagement and learning outcomes for all students.
- Develop lesson plans that align with state and federal adult education standards and program goals.
- Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs.
- Review student goals regularly and assist students in developing and updating educational and career plans.
- Coordinate with other instructors and volunteer tutors to ensure instructional continuity and student success.
- Provide and monitor supplemental distance learning opportunities in accordance with program policies.
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student performance records.
- Participate in required professional development activities and program improvement initiatives.
Participate in student recruitment, intake, orientation, and enrollment activities.
Review student goals, assessment results, and educational plans to identify support needs and promote persistence.
Meet with students individually to identify barriers to attendance, participation, and achievement.
Assist students in accessing resources related to transportation, childcare, housing, healthcare, and other support services.
Make referrals to community agencies, workforce development partners, post-secondary institutions, and other appropriate resources.
Coordinate support services with instructors, volunteer tutors, and program staff.
Provide transition services and resources to assist students in moving into employment, occupational training, or post-secondary education.
Maintain accurate documentation of student support services, referrals, contacts, and hours in accordance with program requirements.
Monitor student attendance and follow up with students at risk of dropping out of the program.
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIESParticipate in staff meetings, program planning, and continuous improvement activities.
Support program compliance with state and federal adult education requirements.
Assist with student retention, recruitment, and program outreach efforts.
Collaborate with community partners to strengthen student support networks and transition opportunities.
To complete the above responsibilities, the Adult Education Instructor and Student Support Coordinator must engage in close collaboration with instructors, program staff, volunteer tutors, community partners, and workforce development agencies to support student achievement and program goals.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThis position includes daytime instructional responsibilities, student support coordination activities, and one regularly scheduled evening class.
