Temporary Academic Advisor (Pool) – Center for Academic Advising

Please Note: This is a temporary position with a length of assignment based on department need, with the possibility of continuation.

The Center for Academic Advising seeks a temporary academic advisor to provide academic advising and support during the incoming academic year. The position will support first‑year and transfer students and will be expected to provide accurate academic policy and curricular information to assist in short‑term and long‑term academic program planning and career goal clarification. The advisor will work with all students served by the Center for Academic Advising, including freshmen, transfers, military, and pre‑professional students.

• Provide academic advising to a caseload determined by the number of hours worked (10–29 hours per week).
• Deliver accurate academic policy and curricular information to assist students with short‑term and long‑term academic and career planning.
• Support first‑year and transfer students and work with military and pre‑professional students.
• Utilize a range of software applications and educational technologies, including Microsoft Office, learning management systems, and other technology‑enhanced delivery platforms.
• Occasionally work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a closely related field, with three years of progressive experience in academic advising, student support services, or a comparable area; or at least 18 hours of discipline‑focused master’s level coursework in a related discipline.
• Experience utilizing a range of software applications and educational technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems, and other technology‑enhanced delivery platforms.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Experience in a university/college setting, with experience in academic advising preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, problem‑solving, effective organization skills, and detail orientation.
• Exhibit cultural competence and possess a broad understanding of student academic, developmental, and social needs.
• Working knowledge of student development theory, advising strategies, and best practices to support student success initiatives in a university/college environment.

• Hours per week: 10–29 hours
• Schedule:
  
  Negotiable between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday–Friday
• Compensation: $22.50–$23.50 per hour

This position is expected to be in‑person with the possibility of limited remote work.
