Job Summary From JIQAs part of your online teaching assignment for the Executive MPA online program as a Part-Time Instructor, your duties will include the following:
As the section instructor for the first offering of this class, you will teach and grade one live, synchronous section each week (15 weeks) inclusive of a final exam or closing session.
- Conduct a 90 minute synchronous or live section each week with 10-24 students at the same time each week for 14 weeks as per the lead faculty’s direction from material covered asynchronously, potential questions that may have come from students, items in the news that may apply to course concepts, how students are doing on assignments, etc.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of 2 hour(s) per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Encouraging students to complete the official online course evaluations during the appropriate period of the term, and soliciting formal or informal student feedback about the course periodically at other times.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.
- Providing an updated CV annually or upon the department/school/college request.
- Providing written notice, as soon as feasible, to the Dean and/or Department Chair if you desire to terminate or if you cannot meet the obligations of the appointment.
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
PhD (preferred) or Master’s Degree (required). Significant teaching and/or professional experience in the field.
Job Specific QualificationsCandidates must have a PhD (preferred) or Master’s Degree (required) in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related social science discipline and/or professional experience in the field. Additional qualifications include:
Teaching experience or significant professional experience related to the field;
Experience with instructional design and online teaching preferred;
The ability to be self-directed with broadly-defined limits on assignments;
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Candidates will have: A demonstrated ability to interact effectively and efficiently with diverse people in a highly multidisciplinary environment;
Interest in learning to use technological tools to engage students in a virtual classroom environment.
With support of lead faculty and/or course developer, create content and assignments for the course, including determining the timing and method of assignments. Conduct discussion topics for each week’s live session, based on the material developed/delivered asynchronously, potential questions that may have come from students, items in the news that may apply to course concepts, case and/or article discussions, how students are doing on assignment, etc.
Develop/review asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session. Meet all designated class periods. Develop and grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to connect with students. Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. Support curricular development and lead iteration/revision of course material, as needed.
