Position: Academic & Career Coach [Part-Time]

Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire an Academic & Career Coach
. This is a part‑time, non‑union, non‑exempt, and non‑benefits‑eligible position which will work a minimum of 3 days in‑person a week on the Oregon City Campus. Remote work may be an option after 6 months of employment. This position works within a team of 15 full and part time staff in the Advising Department.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Advisors are responsible for informing prospective, new, returning, and current students of academic programs, degree and career options, registration processes, college policies, and transfer procedures while providing excellent customer service to their assigned student caseload. Advisors will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners in a proactive case management process to facilitate the development of intentional educational and career plans to help students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals.

Advisors play an essential role in the implementation of student services activities to increase retention rates, course completion rates, and/or transfer to either a college/university or the workforce

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Academic Advising (60 – 70%)
    • Advise students on educational offerings that CCC offers based on student’s interests and goals.
    • Determine the student’s placement in math and writing and/or review transcripts for placement.
    • Educate students on prerequisites and degree requirements.
    • Discuss employment experience, career survey results, employment outlook, expected salary
    • Inform students of the community resources on campus & off campus to support them with their educational success.
    • Recommend coursework to meet student and community needs in the employment area they are seeking.
    • May serve as advisor to student cohorts, maintain relationships with assigned departments on campus, train incoming academic and career coaches on content specific to cohort related areas.
    • Utilize available and appropriate technology, including Colleague, Navigate, Outlook, etc. to: monitor academic progress of students toward degree and/or certificate completion, identify current and potential academic needs, document ongoing case management activities, and document all pertinent student information and status updates.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with College staff, other organizations, and the public. Serve on college committees and assist with special projects, as appropriate.
  • Conduct Assessments (20%)
    • Conduct Assessments to determine training, educational, career, and personal needs, including reviewing placement, career assessments, work history, and college transcripts, and referring students with barriers to their success to the appropriate resources on and off campus.
    • Assess students’ educational and career goals by taking a holistic approach to understanding their work experience, educational background, personal circumstances, and potential barriers to success. Identify appropriate academic support services and resources to promote student achievement.
    • Guide students through CCC processes and assist students with getting started steps.
    • Educate new students by presenting at New Student Advising Sessions.
