Pay Range

Pay Range $1,483.20 - $1,751 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach MUE 327/ MUE 627 & MUE 328/628:
Woodwind Instruments I & II, during the Fall and Spring semesters, .
Laboratory in flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon emphasizing performance techniques, care of instruments, acoustical considerations, elementary ensemble performance, and practical demonstration of methods and materials for individual/group instruction.

Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of music teaching and learning in public schools, particularly elementary and secondary.
  • A record of outstanding public-school teaching and knowledge regarding music instruction/woodwind instrument pedagogy in instrumental classroom/ensemble settings as well as inclusion of students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity for all students and teaching approaches that are tailored to include all students in the learning process. Excellent connections and working relationships with local public-school teachers required.
  • A doctorate degree in music education is desirable; ABD candidates will also be considered. Master’s degree in music education with Music K-12 teaching certification required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate understanding of various woodwind teaching methodologies for instrumental music, demands of public-school ensemble scheduling, task analysis, and ability to mentor prospective music educators.
  • Experience in leading engaging and dynamic classrooms, student learning achievement in the public-school settings, classroom management and discipline, assessment, lesson planning, and scope and sequence.
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, demonstrated professional experience and/or prior public-school teaching experience, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students.
