Adjunct Instructor of CDL

Compensation

Payable at $27.04–$39.91 per hour, dependent upon experience.

The role reports to the Transportation Program Director and is responsible for classroom and/or behind‑the‑wheel instruction of students in the Commercial Driving Program. Adjunct faculty deliver effective teaching, maintain records, and support program development within the department.

• Share responsibilities with the department for program and curriculum development.
• Maintain a record system for student achievement.
• Deliver and create customized training for local industry.
• Support the CDL State of New Mexico Examiners Program as assigned.
• Prepare and teach courses; deliver lectures, assignments, and tests.
• Evaluate and record student performance.
• Teach hands‑on driving skills in an operational semi‑truck.
• Provide tutoring and mentoring to students.
• Submit grades by the designated deadline.
• Maintain current e‑log and paper log books.
• Resolve student issues or refer them to the Transportation Program Director.
• Perform related duties as required.

• High school diploma or GED and current CDL licensure with five years of experience in the commercial driving industry as an operator.
• Associate’s degree with three years of experience in the commercial driving industry as an operator (preferred).
• Proven teaching ability and relevant field experience (highly desirable).
• Ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license for the vehicle type operated.
• Successful completion of a drug screening test and a Defensive Driving Course.
• Approval to teach no more than nine credit hours per semester unless otherwise authorized by senior administration.

• Bi‑weekly payment at either $778 per credit hour or an hourly rate.
• Tuition waiver for up to four credit hours per semester and one credit class in the HHPC Fitness Conditioning program.

Remote or hybrid work may be approved for adjunct employees located in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, or Texas, subject to prior approval by the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work for locations outside the United States is not permitted.
