Job Description:

The successful job applicant will teach EAR
317 – Sedimentary Processes and Systems in the College of Arts and Sciences. This is a 4-credit course taught in the fall semester 2026. Position begins August 17, 2026, and the first day of classes is August 24, 2026. This course meets in-person on the Syracuse University campus. Course

Description:

Ancient sedimentary rocks and their modern analogs. Physical and chemical aspects of sedimentation and diagenesis. Introduction to sedimentary basins. Economic resources of sedimentary systems. Lecture, laboratory, and field trips. Students should have background knowledge of mineralogy and the history of Earth and life. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.

All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or related field.

Responsibilities:
Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments. Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class. Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.

You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes. Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations. Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instructors.
