Job Description:

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach MHL
466/666 History of Jazz, a 3 credit hour course, during the Spring semester, 2027. The course is a chronological survey of the roots of jazz through the present. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications:

Relevant academic credentials and experience including: A minimum of a Master of Music (preferred), or demonstrable equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated successful college level teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Job Specific

Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of jazz history and performance. Dynamic, engaging presence and teaching style. Ability to organize a representative survey of the most important works of the associated periods and to supervise student projects, papers, and exams. Preference will be given to applicants who are able to fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.

Responsibilities:
Being present and instructing weekly class meetings during Spring semesters as indicated:
Tuesdays/Thursdays 11:00 AM – 12:20 PM Develop and/or update a class syllabus. Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Meet all designated class periods. Attend jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester). Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
