Job Summary

This position reports to the respective Department Chair and works collaboratively with other discipline faculty and the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The instructor assignment involves teaching introductory and upper-level behavioral health courses and related courses via multiple modalities. Teaching may occur in person/on campus or online including nights and weekends and will have the option for additional summer teaching for additional pay.

This position requires the candidate to live in Colorado with access to Auraria Campus for in-person teaching, however, may have flexibility to teach online or hybrid.

This is not a fully online or remote position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary teaching duties will be in Behavioral Health as an academic science grounded in critical thinking, durable skills, and core values of respect, cultural competence, professional development, and ethical responsibility:

The instructional assignment will include lecture classes in the discipline. The successful candidate will be able to teach behavioral health and/or addiction recovery courses in various modalities (face to face, traditional online, synchronous online) as needed. Times will include daytime, evenings or weekends.

Deliver instruction consistent with the content and learning objectives of the course syllabus; maintain grade and attendance records in a timely manner; recognize and respond appropriately to student diversity through equitable teaching learning practices; utilize clear learning goals and well-planned activities; being available to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.

In addition to conducting classes, the job includes class preparation, student evaluation, program level assessment, student advising, attendance and participation in various stakeholder and/or student led organizations/programs.

Attendance at department meetings and response to emails from students and supervisor within two business days is required.

Participation in discipline/department decision-making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, scheduling and other matters are also expected of all instructors.

Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.

  • Foster a positive student learning assessment culture while supporting students in successful attainment of course competencies and outcomes
  • Maintain expertise in the subject matter area and effectively teach assigned courses
  • Demonstrated high interest in collaboration with interdisciplinary programs and/or contribute to course offerings based on area of expertise
  • Evaluate student performance in a constructive, timely, and effective manner
  • Commitment to the application of diversity and inclusionary best practices while upholding CCD’s mission and vision
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and advocacy in behavioral health
