Pay Range: $6,000 per credit course

Pay Determination:
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months' salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:

The College of Law is seeking a Part-Time Instructor to teach an applied learning course that allows students interested in the areas of intellectual property and business law to apply their knowledge to actual new technology. Students work in supervised teams consulting with companies, entrepreneurs, or universities that are seeking to commercialize new technologies. The finished product includes a report and presentation that covers such things as: analyzing the technology, investigating intellectual property protection, examining the market landscape, identifying any regulatory concerns, and exploring opportunities for funding or licensing.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have an excellent academic record and should hold a JD degree from an accredited law school. Preferred post-JD experience and credentials should include significant legal practice in diverse areas of law, including intellectual property and business law. A demonstrated commitment to excellent classroom teaching, student supervision, mentoring, and training new attorneys is required. Prior law school teaching is strongly preferred.

Candidates must have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and community members from different backgrounds.

Job Specific

Qualifications:

Strong research, writing, and other communication skills are necessary for this position, as is a demonstrable commitment to excellent classroom teaching. Provide detailed feedback on student assignments, prepare classes, and supervise student work on projects and other student assignments as needed.

Responsibilities:
Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. Prepare lectures, projects and other student assignments. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Meet all designated class periods. Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to the College of Law and University regulations. Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.

Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
