Job Description & How to Apply Below

The UAA Department of Art in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is seeking applicants who are interested in teaching credit courses as Adjunct Faculty. Dedicated faculty, challenging curricula, well-equipped studios, a dynamic roster of visiting artists, and a gallery that focuses on national and international art exhibitions are the aspects of our department which empowers and prepares students for graduate study and fine art careers.

The UAA Department of Art is seeking adjunct faculty for courses inthe foundation areas of beginning drawing, 2D and 3D design, and color design, for delivery either synchronously in person on campus or asynchronously online. Interested candidates in other disciplines are welcome to apply as needs vary from semester to semester. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed.

Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule.

Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness.

Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment.

To thrive in this role adjunct faculty need a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with students and a desire to help turn student aspirations into reality. Successful candidates will possess interpersonal skills to engage effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, administration, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

A faculty member who is the instructor of record in a credit-bearing course at the undergraduate level should hold a terminal master's degree (MFA), unless an exception has been approved by the Dean of CAS. Exceptions may be made in other circumstances when prospective faculty have special professional credentials and experience. An example of a candidate with special professional credentials might be an accomplished artist.

Faculty teaching upper-division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline.

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
