Online World Language (OWL) Teacher - Spanish

An OWL teacher works 1:1 with a student and is responsible for providing the following course to their student. This position can be done remotely. It is, in large part, flexible and asynchronous. It is possible for a full-time teacher to take on this position as an additional job. The course will immerse students in Spanish language and culture. Teacher will design activities to provide students with maximum opportunities to use their Spanish language.

At the outset of the year-long course, the teacher will assess each student's proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening based on an online assessment, the products and assessment of their most recent language course work, interviews with the students or parent, or a combination of these sources. The teacher will also set two weekly online meeting times for interaction with all of the students on that teacher's roster.

Each student will attend one meeting per week as a course requirement and may opt to attend both meetings. Active participation in synchronous class meetings is required. The teacher will offer assignments and activities to engage the student in age- and proficiency-level-appropriate language use in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. All instructions, assignments, videos, communication prompts, and grading will be available online for students and parents to access.

Students will be challenged in the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational) necessary for authentic and applicable language proficiency. Students will complete most work independently and asynchronously, accessing assignments through an online platform. Students will learn to use a variety of technology tools. Homework is required. In addition to the synchronous meeting times, the teacher will check in to the learning platform at least one additional time per week to grade or respond to any questions or materials the student has submitted online.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a valid Minnesota teaching license or the ability to earn permission to teach in MN. Preferences:
Experience teaching/living abroad is preferred. Teaching experience at the age level of the open position is preferred.
