Summary:
The English Department at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part-time adjunct teaching appointments. For the current academic year, the department anticipates instructional needs in Creative Writing. The English Department at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part-time adjunct teaching appointments.
For the current academic year, the department anticipates instructional needs in Creative Writing.
Within the College of Arts & Sciences, adjunct faculty may be responsible for:
- Teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses depending on unit need.
- Preparing syllabi and course materials.
- Delivering instruction and assessing student learning.
- Holding office hours.
- Fulfilling other instructional duties consistent with departmental needs.
Required Qualifications:
- A Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writingor a closely related field, or equivalent experience and qualifications.
- A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree, or ABD status, in Englishor a related field at the time of appointment (August 10 for fall or January 10 for spring).
- Previous academic teaching experience is desirable.
- This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
- This is a part-time position restricted to the term to which it is assigned and hired and is not eligible for benefits.
- The position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed to meet operational requirements.
- As part-time exempt employees, adjuncts are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program. Total hours worked may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
- Within Arts & Sciences, adjunct instructional workload limits apply. Total adjunct work hours for part-time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed 1,500 hours,generallyequating to up to 14 credit hours for fall/spring and up to 6 for summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
- Adjuncts within the College of Arts & Sciences at William & Mary must maintain an in-person presence for the duration of their appointment.
Remote teaching opportunities are rare and subject to approval.
