PLEASE NOTE:
This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.
UNM-Gallup is currently seeking highly motivated, student-oriented Sr Tutor to work in the Center for Academic Learning (CAL). The success of our students requires Sr Tutor to be proficient in planning and implementing student success initiatives designed to support them as they pursue their educational goals.
The selected candidate will:
- Provide academic tutoring services to a wide variety of individuals and groups throughout our diverse student body.
- Lead and coordinate the activities of peer and professional tutors in strategies to accommodate alternative learning styles and disabilities.
- Create and/or guide and oversee the creation and implementation of tutorial and supplemental instruction programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing, and test preparation.
- Facilitate reading and writing labs to develop writing, math, word processing, study, and other academic skills.
- Maintain and update confidential files and records, ensuring that ethical and legal guidelines are maintained.
- Research and select learning materials, textbooks, software, and equipment to facilitate tutoring; may design specific handout, study, and related materials.
- Participate in the overall administration of the Center for Academic Learning.
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Experience coordinating or providing tutoring services to at‑risk student populations
- Experience in higher education, preferably at a community college
- Experience serving a culturally diverse student population, with a demonstrated ability to relate to and support underrepresented students
- Experience developing and facilitating presentations, workshops, and/or supplemental instruction sessions
