Overview
Join Samuel Merritt University as a Clinical Coordinator and Physician Assistant Faculty member. This hybrid position combines 60% clinical education administration with 40% teaching, scholarship, and service, and offers the opportunity to shape both the clinical and academic experiences of PA students.
Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities- Assist the Director of Clinical Education in placing students to meet supervised clinical experience requirements.
- Maintain current relationships and identify new rotation placements for students.
- Perform on‑site clinical visits to ensure site compliance and identify additional potential placements.
- Manage assigned students throughout the clinical year, including required documentation, surveys, patient encounter logs, time‑off requests, and attendance.
- Communicate with preceptors remotely and in person to support compliance.
- Support contracts, preceptor eligibility, scheduling, EXXAT placement, student onboarding, and other rotation logistics.
- Support rotation assessments, including examinations, preceptor surveys, student surveys, and student evaluation of PA faculty (ACC/DCE) with assistance from ACC and Admin Asst.
- Support clinical year exams and reporting, including PACKRAT, End of Rotation, and End of Curriculum exams.
- Support accreditation requirements related to the clinical year, including SCPE clinical site list and ARC‑PA portal updates, clinical assessment of learning outcomes, preceptor licensure, and board certification.
- Participate in clinical orientation during Pre‑Clinical Preparation.
- Help prepare and run End of Rotation in‑person call‑back days.
- Maintain collaborative external relationships to facilitate valuable clinical experiences and community relationships.
- Provide classroom instruction and present relevant, current course content as instructor of record and guest lecturer in other courses as needed.
- Develop, review, and revise as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program.
- Participate in student recruitment, admission, and selection processes.
- Evaluate student performance.
- Participate in the curriculum committee, providing input to faculty in designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum.
- Perform student advisement and academic counseling.
- Participate in student remediation activities as required.
- Support the program with data collection, analysis, and determination of actions for evaluation.
- Be available on site for students and events as necessary.
- Compose, edit, and continually review information for the PA Student Handbook.
- Review educational literature and learning media to keep abreast of new teaching/learning strategies.
- Help develop, implement, and modify academic calendars for didactic students as necessary.
- Help participate in the orientation program of the incoming class.
- Help coordinate, prepare, and administer pre‑clinical summative examinations, final summative examinations, and OSCE examinations.
- Manage budget effectively.
- Monitor program academic integrity.
- Assist with student job placement and alumni relations.
- Participate in community and civic activities.
- Engage in scholarly activity.
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience or teaching experience in an academic setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to utilize statistical software and apply analytics.
- Strong critical thinking, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Competent in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Nationally certified, state‑licensed physician assistant.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience in an academic setting.
- Active medical practice.
- Expertise in clinical rotation curriculum development.
- Doctoral degree in a health‑care related field.
Oakland Campus – Hybrid
Work ArrangementThis is a hybrid position based in Oakland, CA, requiring a combination of on‑campus and remote work, with in‑office attendance determined by operational needs, meetings, events, and team collaboration requirements.
Mental/Physical RequirementsThe position will be performed in an office setting. Sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person, by video, and by telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment such as telephones and computers.
CompensationPay Range:
Up to $63,000 annually (exempt), depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant factors. Salary determination will be based on a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to qualifications and geographic location.
