JOB TYPE: Full Time

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Education
SALARY RANGE: $47,900 to $71,900

The Facilitator/Mentor is responsible to implement the guidance, mentorship, teaching, encouragement, and feedback as set forth by a recognized Cultural Advisor.
QUALIFICATIONS- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in Ojibwe Culture and education program required.
- Preferred proficient Ojibwe Culture, and active participant in Anishinaabe traditional teachings.
- Experience working with different education agencies.
- Willingness to maintain a high level of competence, exercise discreet judgment and honor confidentiality.
- Understands the relationship of the culture to the Millie Lacs Community and values and supports the mission of both.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
- Project an image of professionalism and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to work with the diverse constituencies of Indian communities.
- Must have driver’s license and be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance Policy.
- Must have current driver’s license.
- Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- At critical times, Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and may include evenings and weekends.
- This position is grant funded and is dependent upon the continued funding of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s DOJ CTAS Area 9 Youth & Academic grant program.
- Participate in or conduct a variety of student support processes with our public school partners.
- Coordinate student services with all truancy stakeholders.
- Collaborate with others in the development and implementation of the philosophy and mission of the program.
- Evaluate case plan progress, develop and implement plan modifications as appropriate. Collect, organize, and present professional observations to other school support employees and potentially mental health staff.
- Consult with parents, other caregivers, and other Band personnel in dealing with client’s behavioral, emotional, living, and health issues.
- Develop aftercare and follow-up plans that support the students education plan.
- Prepare records and progress summaries for all students.
- Make home or agency meeting visits as necessary.
- Assist in development and delivery of education programs for the community.
- Provide crisis evaluation and intervention as needed.
- Assist principals in truancy issues and coordinate with schools, OSG, Family Services to best encourage attendance.
- Provide cultural referrals for student to assist with building a strong sense of self.
- Nature of work is such those incumbent experiences regular periods of moderate to high stress levels in dealing with client issues.
- Work is primarily in doors in a controlled climate area.
- Some threat of personal danger or risk.
- Hours are typically 8-5, but extra hours may be necessary to meet deadlines and maintain workload. Some evening or weekend work may be required.
- Remote work capabilities required. Must follow Remote Work protocol.
- Local travel is required.
