LOCATION: Statewide Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing
REPORTS TO: Designated Administrator(s)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in teaching language to families of children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or previous successful experience in being a Deaf Mentor may be sufficient for candidates who do not possess a Bachelor's degree.
- Must be a person who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Ability to support families from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultural and ethnic groups.
- Effective interpersonal skills in both written and receptive/expressive communications.
- Ability to use an interactive data management system.
- Work independently and productively and willing to accept supervision and constructive feedback.
- Maintain standards of confidentiality.

- This position is responsible for demonstrating and teaching natural communication and language strategies under the supervision of a highly experienced Early Intervention Provider
- Teach communication strategies to parents/guardians and family members in home-based, family-centered home visits that take place on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
- Share their experiences growing up as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person
- Support families in making connections within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in order to foster a positive self-identity for their children
- Share their career and work experiences
- Focus on five areas during home visits:
Language/communication, making the child's world accessible, Deaf culture, literacy and building community for the child and family
