Position Summary

The Senior Academic Advisor in Advising and Engagement within the Daniels Student Success Center (SSC) provides proactive, relationship-centered advising to support student progression, academic planning, and connection to the Daniels student experience. This role serves as a key point of support for students and contributes to retention, belonging, and academic student success through timely guidance, outreach, and referrals.

The Student Success Center serves as an integrated hub for academic advising, student engagement, career readiness, experiential learning, and student support within Daniels. As part of the SSC, the Senior Academic Advisor helps students navigate and plan their academic journey, connect with resources across the center, and build a strong sense of belonging through the student life cycle.

Essential Functions:

  • This position’s primary responsibility will be student caseload, with an assignment at or near NACADA standards.
  • Student caseload management through proactive, relationship-centered advising for undergraduate and graduate business student populations (including minors + certificates).
  • Academic advising that supports progression, decision-making, and timely degree completion.
  • Retention-focused outreach and follow-up for students who may need additional support.
  • Guidance related to academic planning, policies, campus resources, and student success strategies.
  • Support for student milestones, transitions, and key student experiences.
  • Communication with students regarding deadlines, requirements, opportunities, and next steps.
  • Identification and escalation of student concerns that require additional intervention or coordinated support.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of advising interactions, student needs, and follow-up actions.
  • Contribution to a consistent, student-centered advising model aligned with retention and engagement goals.
  • Participate in Student Success Center student engagement opportunities as applicable.
  • Participate in committee work as needed by the Student Success Center unit.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently under general direction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Understanding of advising-intensive, student-centered, and co-curricular program operations.
  • Able to navigate or learn Banner, Degree Works (audit), Salesforce, Airtable, and additional technological tools.
  • Strong organizational, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to quickly read, understand, and correct student degree audits.
  • Ability to identify student needs and customize responses accordingly.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously without sacrificing quality or accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred in Higher Education, Business, or a related field
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or a related field
  • Standard office environment
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.
