Position: Assistant Librarian of Law (Open Rank)/Instructional Services Librarian

Assistant Librarian of Law (Open Rank) /Instructional Services Librarian Position Highlights:

Open rank: New and experienced librarians are encouraged to apply.
Salary: $90,000-$102,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Professional development: $5,000 annual professional development funds, in addition to conference registration costs.
Summer scholarship support: Eligible for faculty summer scholarship stipend for projects consistent with tenure-track requirements, generally $10,000 to $14,000 per year.
Hybrid work: One regular work-from-home day per week during the academic year, with ample opportunities for remote work during intersessions and summer.
Start date: Preferred January 2027; negotiable
Tenure-track faculty status: Opportunities and institutional support for teaching, professional performance, scholarship, service, and participation in the intellectual and academic life of the School of Law and Texas Tech University.

In this position, the Law Library Faculty member will have primary administrative responsibility for instructional services while participating fully in the academic and professional work of the Law Library Faculty.

In this position, the Law Library Faculty member will have primary administrative responsibility for instructional services while participating fully in the academic and professional work of the Law Library Faculty.

A. ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the Law Library's instructional services, working collaboratively with the Associate Dean/Law Library Director, Associate Director, and Law Library Faculty and Staff.
  • Manage instructional services, including coordinating programs; developing, implementing, and evaluating services; and recommending improvements.
  • Build on existing instructional services and develop new programs, services, partnerships, and approaches consistent with the Law Library's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Provide leadership for the development of a legal research curriculum across the Law School, developing competencies from the first year through upper-level courses, clinics, and journals.
  • Lead the Law Library's collaborative development and administration of the 1L legal research curriculum in partnership with Legal Practice faculty, including curriculum design, instructional materials, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the Excellence in Legal Research Program, including curriculum development, program growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and incorporate developments in law practice, the Next Gen Bar Exam, generative and agentic AI, and emerging research technologies into instructional services as appropriate.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of instructional services content, including research guides, course materials, and other resources.
  • Ensure accessibility compliance across instructional services.
  • Provide instructional-design leadership and support to Law Library Faculty developing and teaching for-credit legal research courses.
  • Lead assessment of instructional services, including analyzing data and feedback, evaluating learning and program outcomes, and recommending curricular and program improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures related to instructional services.
B. INSTRUCTION
  • Design and teach a for-credit legal research course.
  • Teach Legal Practice research workshops.
  • Teach in the Excellence in Legal Research program.
  • Provide seminar instruction on Law Library resources.
  • Provide orientations to journals.
  • Provide research instruction to clinics.
C. REFERENCE AND RESEARCH
  • Provide reference services as part of a rotating reference team.
  • Participate in the faculty liaison program.
  • Assist with research requests and other information needs.
D. OTHER
  • Work collaboratively with others to create and maintain assigned Lib Guides.
  • Assist with the Law Library's Scholarship Repository.
  • Participate in posting to the Law Library blog, The Reporter.
  • Participate in collection development and selection.
