Hybrid Remote Work Eligible? Yes but no COCC position is fully remote. Hybrid/Remote possibilities to be determined by the supervisor/department and discussed during interview process.

This full-time, 9-month position integrates adult education instruction, academic advising, and student success services for Spanish-speaking adult learners in Adult Basic Skills ( ABS ) and the High School Equivalency Program ( HEP ). The position balances classroom instruction with individualized student support to improve persistence and GED completion by guiding students from enrollment through GED completion and successful transition into college, workforce training, or employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach
    12 hours per week of in-person Spanish GED instruction.
  • Teach Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.
  • Develop and maintain standards-based curriculum.
  • Use instructional technology to enhance learning.
  • Assess student progress and maintain instructional records.
  • Create an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
Student Success Coaching & College Transition (30%)
  • Provide individualized academic advising and success coaching.
  • Develop educational and career plans.
  • Teach the Bridge to College course.
  • Assist students with admissions, FAFSA / ORSA , Oregon Promise, registration, placement, and college navigation.
  • Support transition into college, workforce training, or employment.
Case Management, Documentation & Student Support (20%)
  • Maintain accurate student records, case notes, and grant documentation.
  • Monitor attendance, persistence, and completion.
  • Coordinate referrals and interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and grant requirements.
  • Participate in department meetings and professional development.
  • Collaborate with HEP and ABS staff.
  • Contribute to curriculum improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

  • Ability to fluently communicate orally in English.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of GED content and adult learning principles.
  • Ability to teach all four GED subject areas (math, science, language arts, and social science) in Spanish.
  • Strong advising, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use instructional technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and campus locations, as required.

Ergonomic Requirements

Teaching assignments can be taught in day or evening. Classes taught either online or on any of the COCC campuses. Office hours are generally scheduled around class times.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, adult education, human services, counseling, Spanish, or related field.
