Roanoke Catholic School is seeking a middle school math teacher to instruct courses for 6-8th grade.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Tasks:- Observe all school and diocesan directives, adhering to guidelines regarding curriculum.
- Obtain, read and be familiar with the Staff/Faculty Handbook.
- Prepare weekly lesson plans that reflect clear objectives, effective procedure, and a range of activities to respond to individual differences.
- Assign class and home work that provides for independent practice of subject matter.
- Evaluate the performance of students in a variety of ways that measure comprehension as well as oral, written and performance skills as appropriate.
- Provide one or two extra help times before or after school and communicate these times to parents and students.
- Identify special needs of students and seek help from the guidance counselor and/or resource teacher.
- Integrate technology where possible in all subject areas.
- Take attendance at the beginning of each class period and record tardiness and absences.
- Plan and supervise field trips as appropriate to emphasize lessons or further the education of students, following all school and diocesan guidelines.
- When the student body is gathered for Mass, forum, or assembly, all faculty members are required to be present.
- Keep required records on paper as well as copies on computer including records of contacts with parents (such as phone calls and emails not sent through FACTS SIS).
- Submit evaluations and letters sent to parents.
- Maintain good relations with parents.
- Promote order and self-discipline in the classroom, at recess, at lunchtime, at arrival and at dismissal time, upholding school regulations.
- Help maintain a safe environment by helping to keep exterior doors closed and secured, never leaving children unattended, reporting unrecognized visitors (with no visitor badge) to the administration, and instructing students about being where they are supposed to be and not letting anyone into the building.
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards in all school-related activities.
- Teachers in upper grades will be required to write recommendations for college and/or scholarships as needed.
- Participate in forming the school-wide goals at the beginning of every school year.
- Foster Christian values and behavior among students.
The teacher is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school and may involve work in classrooms, laboratories, computer labs, the library, and other parts of the facilities including the grounds.
The Teacher is responsible to and appraised by the Principal and Head of School.
Working Conditions:This is a full time position, which is 40 hours per week during the school year. Travel time is sometimes required for field trips, diocesan meetings and other assigned responsibilities. A classroom and necessary books and supplies are provided by the school.
ProfessionalQualifications:
Must be licensed and certified to teach your area of responsibility by the state of Virginia.
- Each teacher is responsible for maintaining and updating his/her own certification.
The Catholic School Teacher works with the Principals and school officials to carry out the educational policies of the diocese and has responsibilities that are professional, instructional, managerial and interpersonal. Teachers are expected to facilitate the learning of each student, comply with school rules and policies, and provide for the safety of students. The teacher is hired and appraised by the Principal and is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Richmond, particularly the Office of Catholic Schools.
